DURANT, Okla. (KXII) - On Friday, the bridge on U.S. 69/75 over Choctaw Road in Durant officially became the Michael Pace Memorial Bridge.
“It took what seemed to be a long time, but it’s done,” Michael’s sister Debra Shires said. “I greatly appreciate it.”
Michael, or as most of his family knew him - simply Mike or Mikey - was a U.S. Navy veteran and served the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office for three years before a crash near at the intersection took his life in December of 1998.
“Every time I passed this intersection, I drove a little slower, I paid attention and I remembered Michael Pace,” Bryan County Sheriff Joey Tucker said.
