EDITORIAL: Oklahoma makes good strides in repairing poor bridges

Oklahoma has made tremendous strides in dealing with the condition of bridges on roads and highways.
About 20 years ago, the state ranked 49th in the country, with about 1,200 bridges deemed structurally deficient, according to reporting by Oklahoma Voice.
Now, according to Tim Gatz, executive director of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, there are just 35 bridges maintained by ODOT that are considered structurally deficient. That’s according to a report by the Federal Highway Administration. And, those 35 will be taken care of in the eight-year construction plan. The agency maintains about 6,800 bridges.
