HARRAH — It will take a 29-mile parade, a super heavy-duty, slow-motion traveling spectacle, to get the OG&E power plant at Harrah up to speed with its two new power generation units — several trips, in fact.
Some equipment required for the upgrade is so massive that Oklahoma County commissioners had to create a formal permitting process to govern oversize and overweight vehicles on county roads and bridges, to give it cover if any damage occurs.
Oklahoma Gas and Electric Co. broke ground for two new natural gas-fired combustion units at the Harrah plant, at 19801 NE 36th St., last fall, to replace two aging gas-fired steam power generators dating to 1958 and 1963. The equipment is too wide, at 16 feet, to haul on Interstate 40 and I-335, the Kickapoo Turnpike.
