Fatal crash renews focus on long-planned Highway 33 intersection upgrades in Guthrie

GUTHRIE, Okla. — Two people were killed Thursday morning in a crash at Highway 33 and South Broadway, an intersection residents say has been a concern for years.

Four years after the Oklahoma Department of Transportation announced plans for turn lanes at the intersection, the agency said Thursday the project will go out for bid in October and construction could begin in 2027.

While Residents say they want more immediate safety measures in the meantime.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said on Thursday, a Jeep turning eastbound onto Highway 33 from northbound South Broadway was hit on the driver’s side by a commercial truck.
