George Nigh's legacy includes a highway that's critical to Northwest Oklahoma

George Nigh accomplished many things during his long career of public service, but several of his acts have made a lasting impact on the state he led as governor for eight years.

Nigh died July 30 at the age of 98.

His tenure as governor during the 1980s was a time when the state underwent massive changes, and his modernization efforts helped prepare Oklahoma for the 21st century.

From appointing Oklahoma's first female Supreme Court justices to upgrading critical state highways, here is just a sample of Nigh's most lasting contributions to Oklahoma.
