Press Release January 8, 2025
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, January 8, 2025 – Former Governor Frank Keating, Co-Chairman of Transportation Revenues Used Strictly for Transportation (TRUST), issued the following statement today on the passing of former Secretary of Transportation and ODOT/OTA Executive Director Neal McCaleb who passed away Tuesday at age 89.
“Oklahoma has lost a true transportation patriot in Neal McCaleb. He was solid, bright, true and solely focused on what is best for the cause. Neal served from 1995-2001 as my Secretary of Transportation and Executive Director of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and Oklahoma Turnpike Authority where he constantly pushed the envelope for improved surface transportation infrastructure. Many of the improvements our citizens see today can be traced back to Neal’s vision. He was an expert civil engineer in the private sector, a respected member of the Oklahoma Legislature, a proud member of the Chickasaw Nation and a skilled statesman who always had Oklahoma’s best interests at heart. I had the pleasure of reuniting with Neal often during our years together with TRUST where Neal volunteered 19 years of his time and expertise to our mission. He was a very good friend and a true Oklahoma icon. I am shattered by his loss.”
TRUST is an advocacy group dedicated to restoring Oklahoma’s transportation infrastructure. We are committed to creating a culture within Oklahoma government that values and adequately funds transportation as a core priority. Since 2005 TRUST has grown into a diverse coalition of statewide organizations representing banking, energy, agri-business, construction, chambers of commerce, public safety, transportation and concerned citizens.
