SAND SPRINGS, Okla.- A major pavement reconstruction project on Highway 97 in Sand Springs is now about four months behind schedule, leaving residents and businesses frustrated. Originally scheduled for completion in spring 2025, the project began in September 2023 and now isn’t expected to wrap up until the fall.
Drivers Call It a Daily Hassle
The construction zone covers less than a mile, but drivers say it’s had a big impact on their daily routines.
“It’s a pain in the rear,” one local driver said.
“I avoid it as much as possible,” added another.
Others described traffic as “crazy” and “hectic,” especially with detours and blocked-off areas complicating access to businesses.
