LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - City Officials say they’re currently in the early beginning stages of replacing the two bridges on 11th Street near the Lawton landfill.
They say the current bridges were built in 1901, making them well past their intended lifespan.
In addition, the bridges suffered major structural damage due to vehicles well over the weight limit driving over the bridges.
People are frustrated by the closure because they’re not seeing any progress but officials stress that the process is not instantaneous.
“Just like any construction project there’s work that has to be done behind the scenes,” Director of Engineering for the City of Lawton Michael Jones said.
