New study explores alternative to Oklahoma gas tax

TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — The price of a gallon of gas is what grabs many people's attention when going to the gas pump, and a portion of that price is the state gas tax.

"The state gas tax right now is 19 cents on every gallon of gas," said Dawn Sullivan, deputy director of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

She is facing the dilemma of declining revenues due to more efficient cars but still faces the same volume of road maintenance.

"As we get into more fuel efficient vehicles and even alternatively fueled vehicles like EVs, electric vehicles, and even hydrogen vehicles in the future, we still have to pay for that transportation system," Sullivan said. View the full article: KTUL.com
