ODOT approves Roosevelt Bridge replacement project

KTEN News Sabine Welsh Apr 7, 2026

(KTEN) — If you travel between Kingston and Durant on US 70, you cross Lake Texoma on the Roosevelt Memorial Bridge — a narrow, two-lane span that was opened 81 years ago.

"It's pretty sketchy," said Blake Harper. "I don't like going down it, especially in a good sized vehicle."

Now the span that's gotten a lot of mixed reactions over the years has been approved for a big upgrade: A new bridge to replace the aging structure.

"It's really about the end of its service life," said Oklahoma Department of Transportation spokesperson Justin Hernandez. "The bridge is fairly narrow. When it was designed and built, you know, they didn't have the safety considerations, and you get to point where you have to start replacing parts of the bridge and they start to get more expensive."
