ODOT expands U.S. 169 speed zone as Owasso residents voice safety concerns

FOX23 By Paige Orr March 20, 2026

OWASSO, Okla. — The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) is expanding a temporary speed limit reduction on U.S. 169 in Owasso as local police launch a new initiative to curb a recent surge in highway accidents.

ODOT officials confirmed on Friday that the 55 mph construction zone limit now extends south of 56th Street North for northbound traffic and south of East 106th Street North for southbound lanes.

The agency stated the change is a direct response to "observed congestion backing up outside the work zone during peak travel hours."
