Community open house scheduled to discuss I-35 corridor improvements in Norman and Moore
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority are hosting a community open house to discuss the I-35 frontage road and ramp improvements in conjunction with the OTA Toby Keith Expressway at I-35 project.
Despite intense opposition from homeowners along the proposed route, the two transportation agencies are moving ahead with the project.
ODOT is leading the design effort to improve the I-35 frontage roads and ramps from S.W. 34th St. to S.W. 19th St. in Moore. OTA is leading the proposed development of the Toby Keith Expressway and associated I-35 improvements from Franklin Road in Norman to S.W. 34th St. in Moore.
Residents, local businesses and any community members interested in the project will have an opportunity to meet the team, view renderings and learn more about the construction during the May 27 meeting in Moore.
Representatives from ODOT and OTA will be available to answer questions and walk through what the project will involve in the coming years. Informational displays will highlight key elements of the planned improvements. The event is designed as a come-and-go open house.
The proposed 28-mile east-west turnpike will stretch from I-44 to I-35 near Norman and Moore, connecting east to I-40. Estimated cost is $3 billion with completion in 2033.
