TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — More than a thousand bridges across Oklahoma are still considered structurally deficient, and Tulsa County leaders say some local bridges could need major repairs or even replacement as they continue to deteriorate.
Federal data from the American Road and Transportation Builders’ Association shows about 1,700 bridges in Oklahoma are considered structurally deficient, meaning they need repairs or replacement but are not necessarily unsafe.
In Tulsa County, the number is smaller but still a concern, particularly on heavily traveled roads. Among the structurally deficient bridges are 31st Street over Mingo Creek and 31st Street over Brookhollow Creek, both listed among the most-traveled structurally deficient bridges in Oklahoma, with nearly 20,000 drivers crossing each day.
