Oklahoma Turnpike Authority faces challenges as turnpikes convert to cashless tolling

TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA) is currently in the process of converting all 12 turnpikes to cashless tolling through its PlatePay program and is facing some challenges in the process.

The agency said approximately 5% of drivers cannot be billed, resulting in a projected loss of nearly $30 million this year. OTA officials have shed light on the issues tied to the cashless conversion of Oklahoma's turnpikes and are working to find solutions.

During an OTA meeting on August 1st, Oklahoma's Secretary of Transportation shared alarming statistics about the number of drivers whose tags cannot be read by the scanners at tolls. View the full article: KTUL.com
