EDITOR’S NOTE: Three months after taking office May 5, Edmond Mayor Mark Nash sat down with The Journal Record to talk about his top priorities for the city. Part I: Budget Process and Reform. Part II: Roads and Economic Development

EDMOND — The city has $4.5 million budgeted this fiscal year for street maintenance projects like resurfacing and curb repairs but it would take more than twice that to address all of Edmond’s current needs.

“We need $11 million just for that, for taking care of what we have,” Mayor Mark Nash said. “That’s not doing any road widening projects or intersection improvement projects.”

Strengthening the city’s finances is the mayor’s top priority, followed by road improvements and economic development.

“First thing we have to do is we’ve got to get the finances right. You have to have a strong financial structure in place,” Nash said.
