Six-lanes to Tulsa in future OTA plan

Ruling from Oklahoma Supreme Court prompts continuance of SH20 project temporarily slowing traffic

The widening of Will Rogers Turnpike between Claremore and Tulsa to six lanes is back on the to-do list for the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, thanks to a ruling from the Oklahoma Supreme Court last week.

This could be good news for the nearly 60 percent of Rogers County residents who travel out of county for work.

T.J. Gerlach, Oklahoma Department of Transportation strategic communications spokesperson, said the turnpike widening project is currently in engineering and may happen somewhere in the middle of the 15 years.

Representative Terry O’Donnell, Catoosa, said, “We have some improvements coming to the Will Rogers Turnpike at Interstate 44 that were on hold until this ruling. This should get things started again. It will be a plus for our area in the long run.
