The 5 states that abolished the gas tax: here’s how it looks now

Last spring as gas prices spiked a handful of states imposed gas tax holidays, some have since extended them. Here’s a look at where they are in effect.

AS By Greg Heilman September 17, 2022 Gas prices surged this past year as supply couldn’t meet demand. The pain at the pump was further exacerbated by when Vladimir Putin ordered troops to invade Ukraine causing the price per barrel to spike well over $100 as sanctions were impose on Russia.

To provide relief to drivers a handful of states implemented gas tax holidays and a pause on the national gas tax was called for but never materialized. The national average price of regular unleaded finally peaked at a little over five dollars a gallon in mid-June.
