Turnpike Authority to honor Toby Keith's family, after early opposition

The Oklahoman By Brandy McDonnell March 2, 2026

The family of the late Toby Keith will be honored by the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority after state lawmakers passed a resolution to name the new east‑west connector turnpike in the Norman area for the country music icon, whose family has given permission despite his earlier opposition to the toll project, a spokesperson for the singer‑songwriter confirmed for The Oklahoman.

Members of Keith's family will attend the monthly meeting of the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority Board of Directors at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, at the Oklahoma Department of Transportation headquarters in the state Capitol complex.
