OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City street crews are preparing for a major winter storm this weekend by pre-treating roads with a beet juice and salt brine mixture to combat the expected snow and cold temperatures.

Crews began their preparations at the salt barn on Wednesday morning, pre-staging trucks and pre-treating bridges and overpasses.

The salt brine mixture, which is effective down to about 18 degrees, is enhanced with a 5% beet juice mixture that works at temperatures as low as -40 degrees.
