TULSA, Okla. — Drivers who use the Creek Turnpike in Tulsa will need to plan for extra travel time starting this week.
The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA) is starting a major bridge rehabilitation project on the Haikey Creek Bridges with the work expected to last through summer 2027.
On Monday morning, the eastbound Haikey Creek Bridge will narrow down to one lane as part of the early preparation for shifting all traffic to the westbound bridge.
Lisa Shearer-Salim, a spokesperson for OTA, said drivers should expect changes to come quickly.
"Within about a week and a half to two weeks, we'll move all traffic onto one bridge in what we call a head-to-head configuration—one lane in each direction—while we start demolition work on the eastbound bridge."
