TULSA, Okla. — A heavily traveled stretch of I-44 in midtown Tulsa is drawing new scrutiny as drivers report chunks of concrete falling from the Peoria Avenue overpass during recent storms.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) said it's aware of ongoing problems the bridge has had for years—and crews are now inspecting it more frequently than ever.
The Peoria overpass, rebuilt in 2012, is just 13 years old—far younger than many of the state’s aging bridges. But ODOT confirmed the roadway deck has been deteriorating for at least seven years.
